Customer Support Consultant Roy
For a year now, I have been living in Spain because my girlfriend is from here. Previously, I lived in the Netherlands, but after a while, I decided to move to Spain and build a life together there.
I have been working as a Customer Support Consultant for 7 months now, in a team that operates partly from the Netherlands and partly from Spain.
“By working in Spain for a Dutch company, I feel like I'm experiencing the best of both worlds.
FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH DECOS
I first got in touch with Decos through LinkedIn. Although I don't have a direct background in IT, I do have experience in this sector and knew that I enjoyed it. Decos seemed like an interesting company with fascinating work, and moreover, it was possible to work from Spain for a Dutch company. I immediately felt a connection with the company, and it seemed like all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place.
From the beginning, I had a good feeling about it. The process of joining the company is a bit more challenging when you're abroad, of course. However, I feel that when there's a connection, Decos really makes an effort to recruit and support someone internationally.
dutch work cultur, spanish relxation
Working for a Dutch company, I feel like I'm experiencing the best of both worlds. I feel comfortable with the Dutch work culture, and socially, I feel very much at home in Spain. During work hours, it can get quite busy, and during my break, for example, I enjoy having tapas outdoors in the sun to 'disconnect' for a moment.
Low-barrier remote working
I had expected it to be challenging to only have online contact with my colleagues. While I'm used to interacting with foreign colleagues via Teams from my previous job, it was never as intensive. Seeing colleagues only through Teams was different for me, but I found it to be very accessible. When I have a question, I simply call a colleague via Teams, chat with them, or we meet in our scheduled online meetings. It's clear that at Decos, there's an ingrained culture of making such interactions feel low-barrier.
